I was requested by my employer to revisit some previous clients that needed transport to Wal-Mart to shop. My only responsibility was to transport them but I had gone shopping with them, carried there items in and out and as a result they loved me. During the ride to shop I heard Doris give a sad account of not hearing from her family in years. I was greatly moved with compassion and empathy for her. Her friends tried to encourage her but she seemed to be deep in despair and lonely. So I decided she would be my shopping buddy that day.
Over the two hours we had a great conversation. I spoke to her about being a part of God’s family. Being a believer and hearing my testimony she was tuned in to my insight. By the end of our shopping time she was doing better but God wasn’t done. When we arrived back at Lee Square she and the other ladies were discussing what Doris and I had talked about. When we unloaded we stopped and prayed together. When we had finished praying for our families and loved ones Doris asked the other ladies if she could have them as her family. They smiled and were joyful at the request. They embraced each other and Doris wiped away some tears and said that she had sisters now!
I helped them to their rooms and over heard them making plans to cook together and play games etc. It made my heart happy. I said, “Goodbye girl”, when I left Doris’ room. She asked why I kept calling her that. I said, “Because you have the heart of a young lady. I see that and I wanted encourage you to see yourself the way God does not by your age.” She grabbed my hand, smiled and thanked me. I left watching these new sisters act like true family. God is good!
Update: Great news. Doris, received a phone call from one of her great grand kids. They are in England! They called her are paying for her to come see them in December for the holidays! Wow. Awesome!
