Two weeks ago I wrote out a treasure hunt list. One my list was corner and yellow t-shirt to name a few.
As I was walking around the streets of downtown I came around a street corner and literally almost ran into a man in a yellow t-shirt. I then chickened out and watched him walk away. I resolved to find another person that night and went to the Capitol grounds where I figured there would be some people. I was doing my sightseeing when I came across a homeless man sitting by a statue I wanted to take a picture of.
I started a conversation and one thing led to another. I did not have any money on me and only my camera so I invited him to have breakfast with me the next morning at I-Hop. I ended up having a great hour with him just chatting and getting to know each other. When we parted I still was feeling bad as I had not prayed with him or prophesied over him. My resolve continued so on the way the next weekend I wrote out another treasure hunt list. When I was sightseeing that night I found a park with a water fountain and a statue in it.
All 3 were on my location list.
I went to bed that night ready for the my treasure hunt the next morning. I woke up around 3am with a very vivid prophetic dream. In the dream God allowed me to lead someone to Christ and pray for healing with people. I woke up VERY disappointed that it was not real.
I headed out to the park with my list. I also had on my list a red baseball cap (which I thought was nuts because I was a block away from Busch stadium and the cardinals so I figured I would see red baseball caps ALL over the place….especially because they had a 3 game home series the 3 days I was there).
Anyway, as I walked around at first I did not see anyone at all with a cap let alone red. I turned back around to look again and I saw a woman talking with a young man in the shade of this tree. I went over and told her I was on a treasure hunt and that I believe God pointed her out to me because she was at a park with a water fountain next to a statue and had on a red cap. Asked her if her name was Sara or Angie as they were on my list. She said no, but I said that was OK and that God just wanted me t share with her how much He loved her.
The gentleman on the grass quickly grabbed my hand and asked if I would pray for him so I said sure. Sat down next to him as he shared his story about being addicted to alcohol. He asked me to pray for his pancreas and liver and for the safety of his family. Got to prophesy some good words over him (leadership for one) and then declared healing over him. Before we had started to pray another gentleman came up to me and asked if I could talk with him next and I of course said sure. I finished with the first guy (named Pierce) and proceeded to sit under another shade tree with Gary.
He told me how life just felt empty and how he had been taken advantage of. He just said he felt sad and depressed. Shared some good things with him about God being his best friend that would never leave him and never disappoint him. Shared with Him about God’s peace. Asked him if he wanted to receive Jesus in his heart and he said yes so I led him in my version of the ‘sinners prayer’. He then shared with me about being an ex con and how God had gotten him out of what should have been a life sentence.
Before we finished talking and were about to exchange phone numbers….(he actually had a place to live and a phone) another gentleman came up to me and asked if I would talk with him next so I said sure. I exchanged phone numbers with Gary and then proceeded to find the other guy who wanted to chat. He was with Pierce talking and Pierce told me that he (guy #3) is a great singer. So off Steven and I went to chat. He shared with me his story and told me he knew Jesus and just had fallen away from him. Told me he wanted to get right with Him again and could I pray for him. So we prayed and then he asked me if he could sing for me so I said sure. He starts singing Agnus Day and I mean really belting it out.
He had been holding my hands while we were praying and as he was singing he raised his hands which of course meant mine were raised also….so I just joined in belting out Agnus Day with him. When we finished there was another guy standing next to us with tears streaming down his face. He asked if we would pray for him so I of course said yes (by now you get the pattern…just say YES to God) We prayed for him and then he wanted to talk to me some more so I went to a park bench with him and he shared his story of being a veteran (Steven was also a veteran) and that he was waiting for his pension to come thru and was afraid he would lost his hotel room where he was staying soon if the money did not come in. Much more to his story but you get the idea.
I prayed with him and then went back to the hotel to get some water for these guys. It was 90+ and very humid that day. I went back to the park with the water and walked by a park bench with 2 guys sitting there. One guy says to me, “ weren’t you just hear praying with some guys”. I told him yes and he started to share some things he wanted pray for. So I placed my hand on his should and started to pray for him. When I finished I went to the next park bench where Gary (the one who accepted Christ) and the woman with the red cap were sitting. I gave them the water.
The lady then says to me….you know the other reason you are here is because of me. I am the one that God pointed out to you. I told her to give me a few seconds and then asked her if she was a mother. She said yes surprised and very emotional. She looked like she wanted to cry but held back. I told her that God loved her mother’s heart and that he valued her being a good mother. Told her that she has a tender heart and that God loves how she mothers those around her. (Side note….she definitely was the mother to all these homeless people). Told them I would be praying for them all and then went back to the hotel to process. On Monday night I got a voice mail from Gary saying thank you for laying hands on him and that my hands brought him so much peace. He said he was feeling better.
I called him back and we talked for 35 minutes and he just continued to share his story with me. Was able to encourage him and tell him God is the reason for his peace. I told him to call when he needed to talk.
